Meditation
= to ‘mutter’ or memorize or think about or ‘repeat under he breath’ involves
repetition.
Psalms 1 refers
to meditate on God’s ‘law’ being a reference to the biblical instruction. (Ex.
Moses)
- Imagination and visualization are involved and engaged when we focus (as advised by Ellen White), on the life of Christ, especially the closing scenes. There is an implied expectation that we use the power of mental visualization in order to engage the senses and thinking / contemplation in the process of meditation.
2 Corinthians 3:18
But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the
Spirit of the Lord.
Implies that what we focus on can change thinking and
behavior – mental and psychological image.

The foundation for ministry is rooted in the ‘life’ of the
ministry. Essentially, we cannot give what we don’t have or posses ourselves.
How can we advise others to meditate when we ourselves are not engaged in that
practice? We must practice and become what we implore others to do and be.
Isaiah 8:19 also refers to those who mutter and peep… Just

Prayer and meditation blend with each other. Meditation may
give the basis for prayer as we are able to focus on self in relations to
Christ. We begin by listening – prayer can therefore, be seen as a response.

Journaling – writing down what we hear God say to us – God
may often in quietness impress our thoughts with what he wants us to know…
A spiritual journal is a living, preserved account of God’s
actions, leadings and impressions on your heart in written form. This enables
continued reference. It is important to refer back to journal entries – t aid
reflective thinking / meditation.
All who are under
the training of God need the quiet hour for communion with their own hearts,
with nature, and with God. In them is to be revealed a life that is not in
harmony with the world, its customs, or its practices; and they need to have a
personal experience in obtaining a knowledge of the will of God. We must
individually hear Him speaking to the heart. When every other voice is
hushed, and in quietness we wait before Him, the silence of the soul makes more
distinct the voice of God. He bids us, "Be still, and know that I am
God." Psalm 46:10. This is the
effectual preparation for all labor for God. Amidst the hurrying throng, and
the strain of life's intense activities, he who is thus refreshed will be
surrounded with an atmosphere of light and peace. He will receive a new
endowment of both physical and mental strength. His life will breathe out a
fragrance, and will reveal a divine power that will reach men's hearts. {MH 58.3}
